Special Events Manager, New York City
Helen Keller International, an international non-governmental organization founded in 1915 and headquartered in New York City, is seeking a Special Events Manager to join its 7-person Development and Communications Department. HKI’s mission is to save the sight and lives of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged by combating the causes and consequences of blindness and malnutrition. HKI establishes programs based on evidence and research in vision, health and nutrition.
Scope of the Position:
The Special Events Manager is part of a 7-member Development and Communications team and reports directly to the Vice President of Development and Communications. The Special Events Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of HKI special events, including a Gala in New York City, cultivation events, and fundraisers that develop in other U.S. markets to reach target revenue goals. Responsibilities include:
- Assisting with developing strategy;
- Coordinating logistics;
- Facilitating volunteer leadership;
- Developing and managing mailing lists and mailings;
- Producing event materials, including invitations;
- Helping secure auction items;
- Coordinating with outside vendors.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required;
- Minimum of 5 years experience working in special events in a non-profit setting required;
- Proven ability to prioritize responsibilities, meet deadlines, and ensure complex tasks are tightly organized;
- Demonstrated confidence in working with major donors and senior staff to ensure proactive communications and involvement of those individuals;
- Maturity, experience, patience and comfort in dealing with a diverse range of people;
- Excellent computer literacy with Word, Excel and Outlook, and knowledge of Raiser’s Edge; experience with researching on the Internet;
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills; and
- Personal commitment to HKI’s mission and goals.
